In early June 2026, representatives of the CFive Analytical Center at Astana International University participated in a series of international expert events held in Italy and Poland dedicated to discussing political and institutional reforms in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The central focus of the discussions was the implementation of Kazakhstan’s constitutional reforms and their impact on the country’s ongoing modernization of public administration and socio-political institutions.
On June 3, an international conference entitled “Constitutional Reforms in Kazakhstan” was held in Rome at the Senate of the Italian Republic at the initiative of the Italian Institute for Asia (ISIA). The event brought together representatives of European political and expert communities, including Giusi Princi, Chair of the European Parliament Delegation for Relations with Central Asia; Francesco Failla, Coordinator of the C5+1 Ministerial Meeting at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Senator Andrea Trevisi; Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Italy Yerbolat Sembayev; and the leadership of ISIA. The CFive Analytical Center was represented by its President, Sapargali Shalgimbayev.
During the discussions, participants expressed a positive assessment of the reforms being implemented in Kazakhstan, highlighting their consistent, comprehensive, and institution-oriented nature. Particular attention was given to the redistribution of powers among branches of government, the strengthening of political accountability mechanisms, and the expansion of citizen participation in decision-making processes. Participants also emphasized Kazakhstan’s growing role as a stable and reliable partner in Central Asia, which continues to stimulate European interest, including from Italy, in expanding political and economic cooperation with Astana.
On June 8, at the invitation of the Polish think tank The Opportunity Institute for Foreign Affairs (OIFA), an international roundtable entitled “Constitutional Reforms in Kazakhstan: Paths of Development and State Transformation” was held in Warsaw. Hosted by the Polish Press Agency (Polska Agencja Prasowa), the event brought together experts from Poland and Kazakhstan. Participants included Janusz Piechociński, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Poland; Małgorzata Samołędna, Head of OIFA; Jerzy Olędzki, Member of the Board of the Michał Boym Institute for Asian and Global Studies; and Sapargali Shalgimbayev, President of CFive.
The discussion concluded that Kazakhstan continues to demonstrate sustainable political and socio-economic development, while consistently pursuing the modernization of state institutions and the diversification of its national economy. Experts underscored the importance of the reforms as an instrument for enhancing the effectiveness of public governance and strengthening the country’s international standing.
A key outcome of the Warsaw event was the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation and Mutual Understanding between the CFive Analytical Center at Astana International University and OIFA. The agreement provides a framework for expanding expert cooperation, conducting joint research projects, organizing collaborative events, and further strengthening CFive’s engagement with European partners.
The events held in Italy and Poland confirmed the sustained interest of European political and analytical communities in Kazakhstan’s political modernization process. The participation of CFive representatives as invited speakers at international platforms reflects the growing recognition of the center’s analytical expertise and the increasing demand for its assessments among international audiences.
